Eco Gin

Sustainable gin. Made using peas.

A Wirral based, small-batch gin distillery. Gin, traditionally made from grains such as rye, is inherently reliant on synthetic fertilisers. By using peas, we remove the need for unsustainable fertilisers to create a sustainable, clean product.

Going against the grain.

Why we use peas.

Nitrogen fixation is the process through which legumes are able to take nitrogen from the atmosphere to incorporate into their nutrients. Traditional gin making grains, such as rye and barley, are unable to fix atmospheric nitrogen, relying on synthetic fertiliser as their nitrogen source. Synthetic fertilisers, emit the equivalent of 2.6 gigatonnes of carbon per year, a total more than global aviation and shipping combined. Furthermore, their run-off into water increases its acidity and leads to eutrophication. However, being a legume, peas are able to fix the nitrogen abundant in the atmosphere and incorporate it into the nutrients they require to grow. This property removes the need to use synthetic nitrogen fertilisers when growing peas, providing great environmental potential to the beverage industry that previously relied on fermentation of N-fertiliser intensive grains to make alcohol.Eco-Gin uses peas in the fermentation process to make the sustainable, clean alcohol that goes on to be our gin.

Synthetic Fertilisers emit more carbon than global aviation and shipping combined.

A process like no other.

Our unique blend of botanicals flavours our gin giving a vibrant, refreshing profile.

Following fermentation, we use a distillation process to yield alcohol at over 95% purity. This clean alcohol is then watered down to give a neutral spirit of 40% abv, ready for flavouring. We flavour our gin with a unique blend botanicals to give a refreshing flavour profile fitting of a premium gin. The flavoured spirit, now Eco-Gin, is bottled ready for consumption. The combination of our unique pea fermentation, premium distillation process and complex blend of botanicals make Eco-Gin a truly sophisticated spirit.Whether you are a pub, bar or a personal enjoyer of gin, you can register your interest in Eco Gin by contacting us via email or on social media.
